Corals consume and hence deplete the Calcium level in our aquariums. If allowed to drop without some form of addition our corals will begin to lose color and growth. We need to maintain Ca at 400-450 ppm. Test often with a good test kit. Liquid calcium is typically added with a dosing pump; although manual additions are effective. Remember once target levels are attained, Ca and Kh (alkalinity) need to be added in equal parts for daily maintenance.
Quick guide: To increase Ca 10 ppm (400-410) in an aquarium with 100 gallons of water, we add 100 ml or 3.4 fl oz. Add slowly, and test as needed.
